GA Resolution 65/277: Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS: Intensifying our Efforts to Eliminate HIV and AIDS

Resolution adopted by the General Assembly, 10 June 2011, New York

Three decades into the AIDS epidemic and ten years since the landmark United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS, leaders came together at the High-level Meeting on AIDS from 8-10 June 2011 in New York to review progress and adopt a new Political Declaration that includes new commitments and bold new targets to create momentum in the AIDS response.

ESCAP Resolution 67/9: Asia-Pacific regional review of the progress achieved in realizing the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS

Resolution adopted by the 67th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, 25 May 2011, Bangkok

In the lead-up to the 2011 General Assembly High Level Meeting on AIDS, Resolution 67/9 reconfirms the commitment of countries in the region to reach universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support and to address critical barriers hampering responses to AIDS.

GA Resolution 60/262: Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS

Resolution adopted by the General Assembly, 2 June 2006, New York

GA Resolution 60/262, or so-called 2006 Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS, reaffirms the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Millennium Development Goals, in particular the goal to halt and begin to reverse the spread of AIDS by 2015. The Political Declaration also recognized the “urgent need to scale up significantly towards the goal of universal access to comprehensive prevention programmes, treatment, care and support by 2010.”

ESCAP Resolution 61/12: Regional call for action to enhance capacity-building in public health

Resolution adopted by the 61st Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, 18 May 2005, Bangkok

Resolution 61/12 urges the member States of ESCAP to scale up the public health capacity-building, including strengthening the support for HIV response.

ESCAP Resolution 60/1: Shanghai Declaration

Resolution adopted by the 60th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, 28 April 2004, Shanghai

Resolution 60/1, or so-called Shanghai Declaration, notes that more than eight million people in the Asian and Pacific region already live with HIV/AIDS and that HIV in the region is likely to continue to spread rapidly. Consequently, the resolution urges the member States to consider participating in the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995, there has been progress in some areas towards achieving gender equality in the Asia and Pacific region.
