The purpose of the Consultation was to provide a regional platform to enable countries to share, analyze and document their experiences in developing and using evidence-based investment cases to effectively address the AIDS epidemic beyond 2015. The Consultation was also an opportunity to discuss regional challenges and opportunities in the transition to a sustainable AIDS response.
The Consultation was held as a follow-up to the Asia-Pacific High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on HIV/AIDS held from 28 to 30 January 2015 in Bangkok. At that Meeting, ESCAP member States endorsed a regional framework for action on HIV and AIDS which includes the commitment to develop evidence-based national HIV investment cases and sustainability plans. The Consultation was also an important follow up to the Addis Ababa Action Agenda adopted at the Third Conference on Financing for Development which, inter alia, calls for strengthening the mobilization and effective use of domestic resources for sustainable development.
The Consultation was organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Health Organisation (WHO), World Bank and other members of the United Nations Regional Inter-agency Team on AIDS (UN RITA).
