ESCAP, UN Women and the Regional Coordination Mechanism's Thematic Working Group on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (TWG-GEEW), in partnership with the Thai Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Office of the Attorney General of Thailand and the Thai Institute of Justice organized an Asia-Pacific commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November 2015 in Bangkok.  

This year marked the 5-year anniversary of the Asia-Pacific regional launch of the UN Secretary-General's UNiTE to End Violence Against Women Campaign. The event highlighted progress made in the last 5 years and identified further measures required to end violence against women in the Asia-Pacific region. Statements were made by Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Executive Secretary of ESCAP and Ms. Roberta Clarke, Co-Chair of the TWG-GEEW, while a keynote address was delivered by HRH Princess Bajarakitiyabha, UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Representatives of the diplomatic community, UN agencies and civil society organizations joined the commemoration.
