What is Make the Right Real!?

Make the Right Real! is the regional campaign launched by the United Nations
Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) at
the second session of the ESCAP Social Development Committee held in
October 2010.
The campaign aims to accelerate the ratification and the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in Asia-Pacific.

Why Make the Right Real!?

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is the first international human rights treaty to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities.
There are some 650 million persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region, the majority of whom live in poverty.
Many governments that have ratified have yet to fully harmonize their domestic legislation with the CRPD.
It is time for all of us to support efforts to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all persons with disabilities.

How Many Countries Have Ratified the CRPD in Asia and the Pacific?

As of 12 February 2013, 27 Governments in Asia-Pacific had ratified the CRPD. Cambodia is the most recent ESCAP member State to join in ratifying the CRPD.
The table shows the status of the ratifications and signatures updated as of 23 January 2013.

The Social Development Division of ESCAP is currently developing its new website which will include features designed to improve accessibility for all users with disabilities, following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines of the World Wide Web Consortium Accessibility Initiative. The accessibility features included in our pages are intended to benefit users with temporary or long-term disabilities, including persons who are blind or visually impaired, including color blind and those who have motor disability, or simply for those accessing our pages from a limiting environment.

Features.

Web Standard Code: We aim to have the highest level of web standard code. This ensures that screen readers and other devices can view our content effectively.

All code is semantically accurate and the addition of full stops with headings further increases screen reader efficiency. All links and images contain information that allows screen readers to accurately describe the SDD website content.

Skip Navigation Link: Aimed at screen readers to enable navigation items to be skipped taking users directly to the content.

Colour Switcher: Certain colour schemes aid users with colour blindness and or dyslexia.

Font Sizes: Users can change the font size on any page by selecting standard, large or extra large on the accessibility bar.

Video Help and Transcriptions: By clicking on the video icon on the accessibility bar, users are guided through how to get the most from the new SDD website. Along with the video's audio there is a transcription available. This also extends to all videos found on the SDD website.
